Democracy Forward’s People’s Guide to Project 2025 outlines the disastrous impacts of the anti-democratic playbook.
Washington, D.C. — Today, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries, Democratic Whip Katherine Clark, Democratic Caucus Chair Pete Aguilar, and the House Democratic Steering and Policy Committee held a hearing to highlight the devastating impacts Project 2025 will have—and is already having—on everyday Americans.
Witnesses from around the country shared their testimonies of how the dangerous policies of Project 2025 have harmed their everyday lives, from restricting access to health care to attacking overtime pay to slashing social security benefits. After the witnesses shared their stories, members of Congress pointed out that these damages directly result from Project 2025’s agenda, which is already underway in the courts and in the states.
Project 2025 lays out a radical playbook to take over the government, undermine our democratic values, and make it harder for people and communities to thrive. In the hearing, members of Congress warned that Project 2025’s policies would erode fundamental rights and hurt even more Americans.
“It [Project 2025] will raise taxes on the median family of four by three thousand dollars a year and by nearly a thousand dollars for a single-person household,” stated Congressman Sean Casten on the impacts of Project 2025 on taxpayers.
Project 2025 poses—among other harmful policies—an extreme threat to the strength and stability of the American economy. Keeping prices stable and inflation rates low preserves the value of money over time, but Project 2025’s proposals risk dramatic swings in the valuation of our currency, harming everyday Americans.
“I cannot think of a single middle-class family or any family that will benefit from Project 2025,” shared Congressman Ted Lieu.
