Democracy Forward has an immediate opening for a Counsel to help develop and implement a strategic litigation program to challenge unlawful and unethical actions—including statutory or regulatory violations—taken by the Executive Branch.  The ideal candidate should have experience in all aspects of litigation, including investigating potential claims, conducting legal research, preparing complaints, and participating in document review, motion practice, and discovery.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Litigate as lead or co-counsel on behalf of Democracy Forward and its clients.
  • Draft petitions and necessary briefs for actions filed in the United States Supreme Court, federal and state courts, as well as before administrative and regulatory tribunals.
  • Perform non-litigation advocacy activities, including drafting FOIA requests, referrals for investigations, and comments during the federal rulemaking process.


  • At least one year of experience litigating cases on behalf of or against the federal government; this will include a basic level of familiarity with legal doctrines applicable to litigation against the government.
  • Ability to master advanced regulatory guidelines and federal civil procedure, including a familiarity with the Administrative Procedure Act.
  • Ability to become familiar with legal and governmental ethics.
  • Ability to work independently and comfort in addressing ambiguous or novel legal issues and fact patterns.
  • Excellent legal research and writing skills.

Outreach Associate

Democracy Forward has an immediate opening for an Outreach Associate to develop and execute a strategic organizing and advocacy strategy in support of Democracy Forward’s litigation and public education programs.  The Outreach Associate will work closely with our litigation, policy, and communications teams to identify engagement and advocacy opportunities across a variety of issue areas and will also represent Democracy Forward in partnerships with national and state-level organizations. The ideal candidate should have considerable experience working on non-profit, political, or issue-based campaigns.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Manage and guide the daily work of the organization’s partnerships and advocacy campaigns.
  • Identify opportunities for strategic communications and digital advocacy campaigns based on Democracy Forward’s current and upcoming litigation and research docket.
  • Develop and manage Democracy Forward’s relationships with national and state partners.


  • Four to six years of work experience in campaigns, advocacy, political organizing or related fields is strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop strategic, long-term plans and implement them successfully.
  • Highly creative with excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to learn new legal and policy issues quickly.
  • Ability to work well within a team under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.


Digital Associate

Democracy Forward Foundation has an immediate opening for a Digital Associate to help design and implement a digital strategy for all of its platforms, including Facebook, Twitter, and WordPress. The Digital Associate will help to build Democracy Forward’s digital presence in order to educate the public about unlawful and unethical actions taken by the Executive Branch.  The ideal candidate should have social media experience, strong news sensibilities, and familiarity with digital and email tools.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Help develop online branding.
  • Manage and develop content for social media accounts.
  • Report and analyze social media and email analytics, measuring return on investment.
  • Develop, maintain, and grow an email list.
  • Collaborate with web developers to manage website content.

Requirements and qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience.
  • At least two years of professional experience working in digital media.
  • Experience growing audiences across social platforms.
  • Strong understanding of national policy landscape.
