What We Sought
The Trump-Vance administration this fall has escalated its attacks against its perceived opponents. Following reporting from the New York Times that the Department of Justice (DOJ) leadership was pushing prosecutors to investigate George Soros’s foundation, as well as the White House’s release of a new executive order targeting nonprofits–Countering Domestic Terrorism and Organized Political Violence–we sent FOIA requests to the DOJ to track their compliance efforts with this unprecedented direction by the White House to investigate, prosecute, and focus their enforcement efforts on perceived political enemies.
In addition, subsequent reporting by the Wall Street Journal has indicated that the White House is also working to weaponize the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) to similarly target political enemies. We are also investigating the communications of top officials within the IRS Criminal-Investigation division regarding the administration’s perceived opponents.
What We Received
We are waiting for a meaningful response to our FOIA requests from the government.
