Perryman: “The Constitution hasn’t mattered to this President, and the American people, unfortunately, haven’t mattered to this President”

Washington, D.C. – Democracy Forward President and CEO Skye Perryman recently joined several news programs to discuss the Trump-Vance administration’s recent acts of corruption and lawlessness — highlighting the recent indictment of New York’s Attorney General Letitia James, Steve Bannon’s assertion that the president could run for a third term and the widely-publicized proposal from the president that would see him “pay himself” $230 million in taxpayer money as part of a settlement to pay restitution for federal cases brought against him by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ).

Democracy Forward has already filed suit under the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) requesting all records and communications reflecting payments made by the DOJ, Department of Treasury, or other parts of the federal government to President Trump on the basis of claims of liability, as well as communications – including Signal messages – between key officials in the DOJ regarding the President’s claims. The organization has filed hundreds of lawsuits in response to the Trump-Vance administration’s unlawful actions.

The Weekend: Perryman addressed President Trump’s abuses of power

“The Constitution hasn’t mattered to this President, and the American people, unfortunately, haven’t mattered to this President. Why is Steve Bannon saying this now? That is because this is another attempt to normalize things that are not normal that are harmful to people and are not constitutional.”

The Last Word: Perryman highlighted Democracy Forward’s investigation of  President Trump’s suggestion that he is owed $230 million in taxpayer dollars

“The American people do not owe Donald Trump $230 million. This is completely unethical. It is another part of his agenda to try to normalize things that are not normal, not lawful and not ethical in America. We have filed a demand through the Freedom of Information Act. We will see if the Department of Justice and the other agencies we requested information from respond, and if not we are going to go to court.”

The Weeknight: Perryman discussed the president’s unlawful targeting of Letitia James and Jack Smith

“I would be very concerned, her [Lindsey Halligan] appointment is completely unlawful. It violates the federal Vacancies Act… It is a complete witch hunt… This is more of the same from this president. It is bullying behavior. What we know about bullies is that they don’t do well when they are confronted with the truth, which is why they are trying to hide behind these cronies as well as trying to hide Jack Smith behind closed doors. It is all about hiding because they don’t want to come out and face the truth and talk to the American public about what is going on.”
