Tonight, the Texas Supreme Court granted Attorney General Ken Paxton’s petition and vacated a lower court’s temporary restraining order that would have allowed Kate Cox to obtain medically indicated abortion care in the state. “Hours after Kate Cox had to leave the state to access abortion care she needed to preserve her health, the Texas Supreme Court overturned a lower court’s ruling that had allowed her abortion. The Court’s decision perpetuates a climate of fear for physicians in Texas, who are already in the impossible position of having to yield to the whims of Texas politicians over exercising their best clinical judgment to serve their patients. Make no mistake, the actions of AG Paxton and the Court in this case are certain to put patients across Texas at increased risk of preventable negative health outcomes, including loss of fertility and even life.”
