“Civil service protections are critical to our democracy. We applaud the Biden administration for announcing a plan for new civil service safeguards that will help protect the quality and independence of the United States’ civil service from partisan attacks and ensure that the civil service continues to put the public interest first. 

It is no secret that highly-resourced anti-democratic groups are running a coordinated effort to ensure that any future administration can finish what Trump attempted to start: replacing the professional and expert core that makes our government work with a web of partisan loyalists that will put personal ideology and career interests over the public interest. The Biden administration’s changes will defend against such anti-democratic attacks and help fulfill the vision of an independent civil service first laid out by Congress 150 years ago.”
