President & CEO Skye Perryman Statement on the Urgency of SNAP Funding for Families

Washington, D.C. – As millions of families brace for the loss of vital food assistance they rely on to survive, the Trump-Vance administration has refused to use available contingency funds to maintain the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) during the ongoing government shutdown. This program provides critical food assistance to more than 42 million people, including children, seniors, and veterans, and it will run out of funds on November 1st.

As communities across the country are joining together today to mark a SNAP Day of Action, Democracy Forward’s President and CEO Skye Perryman issued the following statement:

“Instead of ensuring that families can continue to put food on the table, the Trump-Vance administration is using people’s basic needs as pawns in a political game. The administration’s callous disregard for the needs of people – including children and senior citizens – is unlawful and immoral. Just as we have done more than one hundred times in the last ten months, our team is prepared to file a lawsuit. We are working with the Lawyers Committee for Rhode Island to challenge this abuse of power and protect people.

“President Trump, we’ll see you in court.”
