Democracy Forward and Public Citizen Litigation Group Filed Suit on Behalf of Government Employee Unions Against Trump’s Attempt to Shut Down of USAID

WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, the U.S. District Court of the District of Columbia extended its temporary restraining order on the Trump-Vance administration’s attempt to shutter the operations of the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID). The ruling came in response to a legal challenge filed by Democracy Forward and Public Citizen Litigation Group, on behalf of the American Foreign Service Association and American Federation of Government Employees.

Last week, the court issued a temporary restraining order, halting the Trump administration’s attempt to place 2,200 aid workers on leave and pausing parts of the USAID shutdown.

“Again today, a federal court has had to step in and halt the Trump administration’s coordinated campaign to undermine the will of Congress and isolate America in the world,” said Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward. “While we are disappointed that it takes resorting to litigation to protect the security of Americans at home and abroad, we are grateful for this order and committed to protecting USAID and its workers who provide life-saving services.”
