Washington, D.C. — Today, on behalf of 16 of the nation’s leading associations representing medical professionals and patients and the public health across disciplines, Democracy Forward filed an amicus brief in the Supreme Court of the United States urging the Court to deny requests for stay of OSHA’s Emergency Temporary Standard requiring vaccination or testing among large employers. The brief explains that failing to implement the requirements would “cause severe and irreparable harm to the public interest.”

The brief was filed on behalf of the American Medical Association, American College of Physicians, American Academy of Family Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, American College of Chest Physicians, American College of Correctional Physicians, American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists, American Geriatrics Society, American Medical Women’s Association, American Psychiatric Association, American Society for Clinical Pathology, American Society of Echocardiography, American Society of Hematology, American Thoracic Society, Association of Academic Physiatrists, and American Lung Association.

In response to today’s filing, Democracy Forward President and CEO Skye Perryman issued the following statement:

“The United States is in an unprecedented and ongoing public health crisis as it battles COVID-19—a battle that can be won only with widespread vaccination. On the frontlines are a large proportion of our nation’s workforce who are regularly exposed to disease or infection at work. We are honored to represent the nation’s leading medical and patient professionals in explaining to the Court the need for immediate, widespread vaccination against COVID-19 to protect the health and safety of workers and communities across the country.”
