Democracy Forward Leaders Highlight New Executive Order Legal Response Center to Challenge Trump’s Executive Orders and Legal Actions Against DOGE
Democracy Forward President And CEO: “We Are Just Days Into The Trump-Vance Administration, And We Are Seeing That The Administration Is Wasting No Time Accelerating An All Out Assault On The American People”
Washington, D.C. — Today, President and CEO of Democracy Forward, Skye Perryman joined Rob Shriver, Managing Director of Civil Service Strong and Outgoing Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management, Somil Trivedi, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Democracy Forward, and Donald K. Sherman, Executive Director and Chief Counsel of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) to discuss the organization’s active and planned legal efforts including:
- Democracy Forward’s plans to analyze and support challenges to Trump’s executive orders through the newly launched Executive Order Response Center
- Democracy Forward’s lawsuit against DOGE, filed Monday with veterans, public health professionals, teachers, consumer advocates, and watchdogs
- The launch of Civil Service Strong to provide resources for civil servants if they are attacked or targeted — and Democracy Forward’s addition of former head of OPM as Trump accelerates his attacks on civil servants.
“At a time when public trust in our institutions is at an all time low, it is more important than ever to have a government that is operating transparently, that is protecting people, that is working for people, not weaponized against people,” said Skye Perryman, President and CEO of Democracy Forward. “On the campaign trail, President Trump distanced himself from a range of extreme policies that were outlined in Project 2025, including policies that would undermine the ability of the government to work for people. We are just days into the Trump-Vance administration, and we are seeing that the administration is wasting no time accelerating an all out assault on the American people, on our way of life, and on the way the government functions and can deliver for the American people.”
“On Monday, just minutes after Donald Trump took the oath of office, we joined with Democracy Forward to comment on how millions of dollars and millions of jobs and and programs that serve millions of Americans will be cut and harmed, instead prioritizing his billionaire friends like Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy,” said Donald K. Sherman, Executive Director and Chief Counsel of Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW). “Time and time again, we have seen that Donald Trump was, and still is, a lawless president. We think he’s a little bit better at it, but we’re a lot more prepared to meet the moment now and are thankful to have partners like Democracy Forward and our clients and other partners in the good government community to continue to hold this President accountable.”
“I am thrilled to be able to join Democracy Forward in this capacity, leading the civil service strong and good government initiatives, because I know that Democracy Forward not only shares my values in making sure that the government serves all American people, but has been fighting for that for many years.” said Rob Shriver, Managing Director of Civil Service Strong and Outgoing Acting Director of the Office of Personnel Management. “The White House is looking to drive out and sideline career expert employees who have been hired based on their merit, based on their knowledge skills and abilities, in favor of unqualified, unvetted political loyalists who the Trump administration is looking to surge into the White House and these agencies.”
“Democracy Forward is meeting Donald Trump’s Executive Orders with an equal and opposite reaction to quickly and thoroughly analyze all of them and put information on a public-facing website, so that the broader community of those who are opposing Donald Trump in the courts and the American public can best inform themselves,” said Somil Trivedi, Director of Strategic Initiatives at Democracy Forward. “It is vital to call out what the Executive Orders actually are, which is a lot of relitigating past grievances and high-level orders that are targeting vulnerable Americans.”
