Building On Initial Success, Democracy Forward Adds Jentleson to Expand Focus on Communications and Outreach

Washington, D.C. – Building on a successful first six months in which Democracy Forward lodged a major impact in holding the Trump Administration accountable, the new non-profit public interest legal organization is expanding and ramping up its focus on communications and outreach by adding the position of Director of Public Affairs and is pleased to announce that it has now hired former Deputy Chief of Staff to Democratic Leader Harry Reid, Adam Jentleson, to fill that role.

Beginning in June 2017, Democracy Forward has pioneered new strategies to challenge the Trump Administration’s unlawful actions and inform the public debate.  Led by Executive Director Anne Harkavy, with a team of experienced litigators, policy experts, and researchers, Democracy Forward has filed over twenty lawsuits to vindicate the legal rights of those harmed by the Trump Administration, representing clients such as Paralyzed Veterans of America, the National Women’s Law Center, Giffords Law Center, NRDC, Bay Journal Media, VoteVets, Food & Water Watch, Common Cause, national public health organizations, and independent farmers and voters across the country.

Democracy Forward has also filed hundreds of FOIA requests, used little-known accountability laws such as the Information Quality Act, and conducted policy and investigative research to expose harmful actions the Trump Administration has taken on sexual assault policy, uncover waste and abuse by senior Trump Administration officials such as Secretary Ryan Zinke, and help veterans get the answers they deserve about the deaths of American soldiers in Yemen and Niger.

The position of Public Affairs Director was created to build out Democracy Forward’s communications capacity and add new capabilities, including digital and outreach efforts that will focus on communicating Democracy Forward’s work to the American public, and decision-makers in Congress and states across the country.

As Director of Public Affairs, Jentleson brings over a decade of experience working at the intersection of policy, communications and legislative strategy. Previously, Jentleson served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), advising on political, legislative, and communications strategy and leading one of the largest and most diverse communications teams on Capitol Hill.  As an advisor to Democracy Forward since its inception, Jentleson helped shape the organization’s formation and public strategy, and will now be joining the organization full-time.

Jentleson joins the leadership team comprised of Anne Harkavy, Executive Director; Javier Guzman, Legal Director; Corey Ciorciari, Policy and Strategy Director; and Alex Hornbrook, Operations Director.
