Sonia Weil

Senior Attorney, Democracy 2025

Sonia is a Senior Attorney at Democracy Forward on the Democracy 2025 team.

Sonia has more than a decade of legal experience focused on expanding access to justice, strengthening democratic systems, and safeguarding elections. Before joining Democracy Forward, she served as Policy Counsel at Informing Democracy, where she provided policy research and analysis on election processes for pro-democracy partners. Earlier in her career, Sonia served as Senior Legislative Counsel at the Council of the District of Columbia, where she led major legislation on voting rights, election administration, campaign finance, and criminal justice reform. She began her legal career as a trial attorney at the Office of the Attorney General for the District of Columbia. She also has experience as a clinical law instructor and civil legal services provider.

Sonia earned her J.D., with honors, from The George Washington University Law School and her B.A., with honors, from the University of Michigan. She is admitted to practice in D.C. and Maryland.
