Paul Wolfson is a Senior Legal Advisor at Democracy Forward.
Paul has more than thirty years of experience in litigating before federal and state courts at all levels, including more than twenty arguments before the U.S. Supreme Court. Before joining Democracy Forward, he served as Deputy Associate Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, where he supervised the litigation of the Civil Division in all of its areas and provided strategic advice to Department leaders and to dozens of federal agencies. For almost twenty years he was a partner and co-chair of Appellate and Supreme Court Litigation at a leading Washington, D.C., law firm, and had experience in a wide array of subject areas, as well as extensive pro bono commitments. He also served for eight years in DOJ’s Office of the
Solicitor General, where he appeared regularly before the U.S. Supreme Court, and for four years at Public Citizen Litigation Group, one of the nation’s leading public interest firms.
Paul is a graduate of Harvard College, the University of Cambridge, and the Yale Law School, and clerked for Supreme Court Justice Byron White and Judge Phyllis Kravitch of the Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit.
