Cortney Robinson Henderson is Senior Counsel at Democracy Forward.
Before joining Democracy Forward, Cortney served as a trial attorney in the Commercial Litigation Branch of the Civil Division of the U.S. Department of Justice. At DOJ, she managed complex civil litigation and bankruptcy matters on behalf of the federal government, handling all aspects of case strategy, negotiation, and advocacy.
Prior to her government service, Cortney was a litigation associate at Jones Day, where she worked on a range of civil matters and maintained an active pro bono practice focused on housing, probate law, and civil rights matters.
Cortney is a member of the Georgia and DC bars and admitted to practice in numerous federal courts and the Supreme Court of the United States. Cortney also currently serves as a board member of the Council for Court Excellence.
Cortney is a proud graduate of Howard University, where she earned a B.A. in Political Science, summa cum laude. She also holds a J.D. from Harvard Law School.
