Suit Seeks Presidential Transition Records Related to Numerous Administration Officials
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, Democracy Forward filed suit against the Trump Administration for refusing to disclose records related to the Trump-Pence transition team. The suit followsreports that as a result of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s ongoing investigations into the Trump campaign, the Federal Bureau of Investigation required the General Services Administration (GSA) to preserve transition emails and related documents which GSA houses on its servers.
Democracy Forward filed a FOIA request with GSA seeking records related to the activities of numerous Trump-Pence transition officials, including Michael Flynn, Rudy Giuliani, Rick Dearborn, and Jared Kushner. GSA has denied the request on the grounds that the “.gov” emails are not agency records, even though the agency and a Trump-Pence Transition attorney admit that GSA has physical custody of the records on a GSA server.
