We’re representing VoteVets, the largest progressive group of veterans in America, in a suit against the Department of Defense and the Department of the Army seeking to uncover the truth surrounding the deaths of service members in Yemen and Niger.

The suit comes amid concerns of conflicting reports about the intelligence obtained in the Yemen raid that resulted in the death of Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens, and the Administration’s total silence following the deaths of four Green Berets in Niger. To date, the Administration has given unclear and, at times, contradictory public statements about the events leading up to the deadly incidents and the lawsuit suit seeks records surrounding the Administration’s public response to the failed military operations.

VoteVets filed multiple FOIA requests to obtain records that could reveal the facts the Administration has failed to provide. Yet the Administration did not meet its obligations to respond to these requests, or to provide an estimate regarding the production of records.

The suit has also received support from Bill Owens, father of CPO Ryan Owens, and Congresswoman Frederica Wilson.
