Courtney Dougherty is a Legal Fellow at Democracy Forward.

Courtney received her J.D. from Harvard Law School, where she worked on issues pertaining to LGBTQ rights and reproductive justice. She served as the research assistant to United Nations Special Expert on sexual orientation and gender identity as well as a legal intern with both Gender Justice and The GLBTQ Legal Advocates and Defenders of Boston. During her time with the LGBTQ+ Advocacy Clinic and Trans Health Care Project Clinic, she participated on litigation against restrictive anti-abortion legislation, conducted outreach in favor of advancing parenting laws for LGBTQ families in New England, and advocated for anti-discrimination healthcare protections for LGBTQ persons. Courtney also organized on campus around issues pertaining to abortion, police abolition, and served as the president of the Law School’s LGBTQ affinity group.  

Courtney is originally from Philadelphia, PA and graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania with a B.A. in Political Science.
